Ambiguously Disgruntled Manifesto

wasting your time since 1975

So my afternoon turned into a bit of a clusterfuck...

I was done with work at 1, and decided to head straight to the Seattle Running Co to buy my shoes, rather than head home first. Tyler had briefed me on where it was, and I was sure I would find it with no problem, and didn't need to run home to check the website to get an address.

I foundit, but only after 30 minutes of walking around, looking in the wrong place. All I had to do was look on the East side of Boradway... and Boy, did I feel like an idiot when I finally found it.

So, I got my shoes, after the whole "run on a treadmill to check you stride style" and trying on a number of different pairs and running up and down the sidewalk a bit in each one. I was in the market for a good, sturdy pair of trail running shoes, and I got some Montrails for $80, which is abotu what I was prepared to spend. However, I also opted for the $40 orthotic, moldable, insoles, to help with my nice high arches and provide some more support. I'm hoping I didn;t just waste $40, as it made the purchase into a bit more of a whole in my wallet than I was intending, but I'm really hoping these insoles help. I am pretty happy with the shoes, though.

I had also decided, when leaving work, that I would take Lemurs up on her offer of Geocaching this afternoon. I was thinking I would originally do my Friday afternoon kayak thing, and had been very non-comittal when Lemurs had emailed me on Wednesday, but I decided on a whim to go ahead and head down to Tukwila, to meet Lemurs at her place of work when she got off at 3:30.

And I would've made it, too, of not for a ridiculously bad turn I made in thickening Downtown Seattle traffic when trying to get on the freeway. That easily cost me ten minutes, putting me at "Giant Bookstore 'A'" at 3:40, Lemurs already gone.

No problem, I'll go to Lemurs and Dragon's apartment (Dragons are in Hawaii) in Kent. I got there at 4, waited until 4:30, when it became apparent that there were no Lemurs. I realized maybe I should have less off-putting when I responded to Lemurs email on Wed, and maybe tried to call or email Friday afternoon... but I Had only decided to come down a couple hours prior... so... I guess thats what I get.

So I had essentially wasted two hours driving to Kent and back, and now, thoroughly disgruntled, renturned to the house, where the roommates were lifting weights in the basement. On the drive home, I had decided to revert to the original plan of going kayaking, then lifting weights. Seeing that the roommates were already at it, I grumbled something about how I was disappointed they had already started without me, because I had wanted to go kayaking, and, well, one thing lead to another, and all three of us ended up going, and it was quite enjoyable. Then we went to the Blue Star for dinner and beer, and now I am here, needing to go to bed early because I have to be at Tylers house at 7:40 tomorrow so we can go orienteering in Cle Elum.

[editors note: everything up until the first sentence in the last paragraph was written before the trip to the Blue Star... the rest was hammered out upon returning home, under the influence of beer and a big dinner, and feeling quite loopy]
