Ambiguously Disgruntled Manifesto

wasting your time since 1975

Tonight we had our fantasy football league draft... things didn't go quite as expected, as two guys that Rich thought were going to be involved seemed to flake out/disappear at the last minute, so we suddenly found ourselves with eight people instead of 10. After some heated discussion/arguing we came to a sort of agreement on an 8-team format, and proceeded with the draft. With the two less teams, there was a little more talent for the taking out there, but for the most part it will probably come down to mostly luck again this year, as it always seems to in the past, with a number of "sure-fire" early-round picks never quite panning out, and later-round "sleepers" or guys not drafted at all making the real difference. Here is my team:
QB: Bledsoe Buf.
WR: Harrison, Ind. Moulds, Buf. Bruce, St.L.
RB: Davis, WA. Smith, N.E. Smith, Dal.
TE: Chamberlain, Minn.
K: Elam, Den.
Def: Pittsburgh
Coach: Tampa Bay (John Gruden)

I'm quite happy with my receivers, to day the least. The same thing happened to me this year as happened last year with regards to running backs, which is that I just couldn't get enthusiastic about anyone after the top 4 or 5 guys were taken. I realize that RB's make or break your roster most of the time in fantasy football, but I just wasn't inspired when I looked at the list of available running backs. I took stephen davis (RB, WA) with my third round pick, but I just can't get over the feeling that it was too early to take him, but I also remember that he just seemed like the best guy available at the time. I think the Smith's (Antowain form N.E. and Emmit from Dallas) are fine in terms of the #2 and #3 RB's in conjunction with a great #1 guy, but I dont't think Davis is that guy. I gues you could say I feel like I ended up with two good #2's and a good #3, which in a way may be better than a great #1 and then two average-below average #3 guys... or so I'm telling myself.
