Ambiguously Disgruntled Manifesto

wasting your time since 1975

I realized I never put up my "Ali" review. Actually, I had it written and ready to post, but the Evil that consumed Blogger for a few days caused it to be lost in the nether-regions of Cyberspace. Now, I find that I'm not all that enthusiastic about re-writing it, except to say it's really good but not the masterpiece some of us were hoping for.

I did see "The Royal Tenenbaums" yesterday and it was Hilarious (yes, you saw that right, it's actually 'hilarious' with a capitol 'H'!!) I don't think it's playing at very many theaters, but convienently for us, one of those theaters is The Neptune right down the street. Funny, funny stuff.

When I was a kid I always prefered the week between X-mas and New Years over the big build-up before X-mas, simply because I could just hang out and play with my new toys, then get that rare opportunity to stay up until midnight on New Years Eve. Well, I'm revisiting that again this year, with all the fun I've been having with my new toy, Elfie the digital camera (or Kammy, haven't decided on a name yet), and it all culminates with the what I consider the one night of the year, over all the other "heavy drinking holidays (St. Patricks Day, et al.) that it literally doesn't matter how much of a lush you are, because everyone else is gettin' drunk too!

this is a great website to help people understand how large these numbers are
http://kokogiak.com/megapenny/

Why do people Hate and Fear math so much? It's very simple people:
you have a byte -- one piece of info
a K, or Kilobyte, is 1,000 bytes
a MEG, MB, or Megabyte, is 1,000K, or 1,000,000 (million) bytes
a GIG, or gigabyte, is 1,000MB, or 1 million K, or 1 billion bytes
1,000 x 1,000 = 1,000,000 or 10^3 x 10^3 = 10^6
1,000 x 1,000 x 1,000 = 1,000,000,000 or 10^9
it's as simple as it gets!

I Wrote something earlier today but Blogger was being a bitch and it got lost. I'm a little peeved about it because I don't feel like trying to re-create it.

Well, Im sitting here double-fisting a glass of Scotch and a mug of Tea, reflecting on this Christmas that was. The Big Family function in Chehalis this afternoon was about all I could take, and has literally driven me to drink. Thats okay, quite a few people out there have to get drunk to tolerate their families and thus the Proud Tradition of heavy drinking during the holidays. At least my gift went over well in the gift exchange thats all I really cared about.

I got my digital camera. For those interested it is the Canon Powershot S110 Digital Elph. It is very small. It kicks ass. I need to come up with a name for it.

Other than that, I got a bunch of stocking stuffers.

So, I hope everyone out there had a Merry Christmas, and Santa was good to them.

Well, I was thinking about what to give my loyal readers for Christmas. The first things that came to mind were Booze and Pornography. I tried to consider something else, I wanted to give my readers credit for being more than a bunch of perverted lushes. Then, of course, it occurred to me, I was being really silly. So, Merry Christmas, and if you dont want to see porno, here are some cute baby ducks. (Google rocks!)

When I was a kid, I always thought Christmas Eve was the most useless day of the year. Other than sitting around listening to X-mas music, what the hell is there to do? Of course, my tradition is to wrap all the gifts I bought that turns out to be more of a frustration endeavor than anything else and watch ESPN specials. Yep, you heard that right: Best of Sportscenter is on at 4:30, and Games of the Year is on at 7:00.

I suppose for a lot of people, theres the whole Church thing going on today, in fact, I know people who go to church on X-mas Eve just for the sake of going to church the only other times they set foot in one would be for a wedding or a funeral. I suppose we could call these People CWFs, in the spirit of EC Catholics (those who only attend Christmas and Easter mass, and still contend to be Catholic).

So, I could use this opportunity to offer up a report on the Festivities of Saturday, specifically from 2-7pm at Annekes moms house in Redmond, in observance of Jon and Annekes Engagement with some Haulidaze spirit thrown in.

I promised to be there Right At 2, mostly for the sake of humor. Why? Well, invitations will always give a start time, but no one in the history of social engagements has ever shown up At That Start Time. In fact, if you show up at the start time, the hosts are still running around madly setting things up, and you are inevitably asked to help. Humor at its greatest. People start to trickle in about 2:20, but it always strikes me (as was the case here) that a good number of the more important people (close friends, future bridesmaids, etc.) dont show up until More Than Halfway Through! Its all just so odd.

So, my theory on this whole thing is that starting Saturday, this whole thing from here until Aug 3rd is Annekes show. Jon is around to take up space and use oxygen, and speak on cue if necessary. I actually made an effort to dress nicely (Gasp!) and act presentable, and, other than a moment on the stairs with the Kitty (Tiffany) I think I did a bang-up job by my standards. Im sure a few people, who havent met me before (and most of Annekes friends have) left the function remembering me as the weird guy.

So, I was the first non-family member there, and was part of only a 2-man non-immediate-family Jon Contingent until another one of Jons friends showed up late in the show (about 5:00). I tried to represent as well as I could. Annekes going to have a goooooood looking Bridesmaid lineup, by all indications!
