Why do people Hate and Fear math so much? It's very simple people:
you have a byte -- one piece of info
a K, or Kilobyte, is 1,000 bytes
a MEG, MB, or Megabyte, is 1,000K, or 1,000,000 (million) bytes
a GIG, or gigabyte, is 1,000MB, or 1 million K, or 1 billion bytes
1,000 x 1,000 = 1,000,000 or 10^3 x 10^3 = 10^6
1,000 x 1,000 x 1,000 = 1,000,000,000 or 10^9
it's as simple as it gets!
